Talent on display at Annual BOCES EXPO

On Monday, April 20, the marble halls of “the Well” in the state’s Legislative Office Building (LOB) were transformed into a showcase of talent, innovation and opportunity, as 28 of New York’s 37 BOCES gathered for the annual BOCES Expo.

Programs in Career and Technical Education, such as Auto Body, New Visions Allied Health, and Animal Science were among the many featured throughout the day.

In her remarks, Commissioner Betty A. Rosa pointed to BOCES as the driver for creating multiple pathways to graduation and preparing young people for the workforce.

“Our students are demonstrating the skills and knowledge with their critical thinking, their problem solving and communication,” said Rosa. “They are living and breathing the Portrait of a Graduate.”

Event sponsor, Senate Education Chair Shelley Mayer, spoke shortly before closing, highlighting the importance of BOCES’ presence in front of lawmakers and the continued fight for funding in the state budget.

Whether through their programs in workforce development, college readiness or human development, BOCES across the state are creating opportunities for all New Yorkers and are vital to the state’s success.
